Review: The End of the Myth: From the Frontier to the Border Wall in the Mind of America

The End of the Myth: From the Frontier to the Border Wall in the Mind of America The End of the Myth: From the Frontier to the Border Wall in the Mind of America by Greg Grandin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The book can be summarized as followed: Because America has always been expanding, it has uniquely led us to where we are now. America is predicated on expansion and cheap labor. Because this continent was devoid of peoples with the means to defend themselves (comparatively) that led to a constant stream of expansion that diffused class and tensions and social injustice(s). When the expansion came to an end, the bad juju it was channeling outward now spills like water on a flat surface, spreading everywhere. The border has been militarized and often the obsession of nativist grievances be they from lost wars or gains in civil rights. The choice before us is clear, barbarism or socialism, or at least social democracy.
