Review: The Conquest of Bread

The Conquest of Bread The Conquest of Bread by Peter Kropotkin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Although this book was written in 1892, many concepts and "truisms" ring true to this day. How production is kept artificially low so as to keep high prices, what reorganizing production for human need rather than profit might look like and so on. Peter, using the information he had in his time did a brilliant job of dismantling conservative and right wing talking points. For example, he calculated how much work people from that era would need to do to survive and live comfortably. Not surprisingly this turned out to be way lower than simply working for capitalists and enriching them (5 hours vs 12-14 hours). All in all, a great book for anyone curious about Anarchism and what it really means to start doing things based off human need instead of profits.
